Prior to 2020, intimate weddings were usually an intentional decision made by the couple. But as we all know, 2020 is no normal year. The global pandemic and various state guidelines have impacted how we are able to celebrate. Many couples who want to tie the knot are left to decide – after spending countless hours planning for a big celebration – if they should postpone all plans, keep the ceremony on the original date and party later (2021), or host an intimate wedding.
The latter feels like a backup option, but it doesn’t have to be nor should it!
Here’s the thing, intimate weddings have always been around but never “trendy” enough to shine on their own. The possibilities for creativity are endless, so let’s reframe the narrative.
what is an intimate wedding?
Intimate weddings or as you may have heard it lately, micro weddings, are typically categorized by the guest count of 50 or less. Think of it as a mini version of a full scale wedding.
One of the challenges may be cutting down your guest list. Listen we get it, this can be daunting especially if either of you come from a big family! But we’re in the times of live streaming on platforms such as YouTube Live, Facebook and Zoom, where you can still incorporate friends and loved ones from all over.
It’s in the details…
The celebration may be small, but the details can be BOLD! With a limited number of guests, you now have the ability to enhance your guests experience and provide more customization to suit you as a couple. Here are a few ways to reimagine your day:
- Venue – You are no longer limited to just a ballroom. Now you can explore creative venues such as rooftops, museums, backyards or your favorite restaurants.
- Catering – Food and Beverage is one of the highest costs on a wedding budget. With the smaller guest count, it lightens up the load to explore multi-course menus or specialized items. Do you prefer brunch or a luxury tasting menu? Have fun with your food selections!
- Personality – This is the time to break away from those traditions and make up your own rules! You can add your personality into your décor details through florals, seating options and much more.
- Quality Time – The day of a wedding moves fast! With an intimate wedding you’re able to spend more quality time with everyone and truly make it a memorable experience. We recommend to move this up on the priority list and find ways to get your guests involved. “People will never forget how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou
An intimate or micro wedding is not for everyone, but hopefully you’ve gotten a new perspective on some of the possibilities. We’re living in a time of phased uncertainty and will be for the rest of the year. Love is not cancelled and deserves to be celebrated! It may just have to be done differently. Besides, intimate weddings have been around and they are here to stay.
